To Players or Parents of Players operating a Business.

posted Aug 31, 2010 12:34 AM by Young Guns Webmaster

Are you operating a small business in the Port/Hastings area?

Can we help promote your business by carrying your message to members of the Band and the Public?

On Sept 12th a souvenir programme will be available to audiences at the Glasshouse concert by the Senior Concert Band and Lane Cove Concert Band. We would like you to join with other Players or Parents of Players to sponsor a business card sized advertisement in the programme. For $20 you will receive an advertisement such as the sample below.

These ads will also be lodged in our "Businesses of the Band" page on our website at no cost; www.pmhmb.org

Senior Concert Band, Concert Ticket Sales Special Effort.

Players in the Senior Concert Band will be asked to make a special effort to sell at least four individual tickets, or one family ticket, to friends, associates or neighbours. This effort could see another 140 seats filled and ensure a full house for the performance.
You will be asked to target ‘new’ people, those who would be unlikely to otherwise attend. These ‘new’ people sales will help grow our audience generally.
These tickets will be at regular price, less a 10% discount, this to help SCB members sell these tickets.
The Secretary (Production Manager) will operate a coupon system. This system will allow these discount sales to be made without risking the loss of any tickets. When players have made a sale(s) they return the coupon butt and the money, and will be given the tickets for delivery to the purchasers.
We would also like a few members to help hand out our new ‘Friends of the Band’ leaflets at the concert. If you are available to help, please see either Glen or Greg.

A concert not to miss!

Band Fundraiser – BBQ at Bunnings!

posted Aug 28, 2010 4:29 AM by Brian Corrigan

The band will be providing the BBQ at Bunnings on Saturday 18th September. This will again be a great opportunity to raise some much needed money for the replacement of some of our small instruments.
We will need volunteers from all band units to assist on the day from 9am to 4pm. Could all those who would like to help on the day please send email the Treasurer, Glen, treasurer@pmhmb.org or see him at the band office on Tues evening or Wed afternoon. Just tell us if you can help out.
We will need cooks, people to serve & sell drinks and people to handle the money. The more volunteers we get the easier it will be on all as we can limit the time each volunteer needs to be ‘on duty’. We would like to have enough people to be able to have a ‘morning shift’ and an ‘afternoon shift’ of 3 to 4 hours each.

Band Fundraiser – Garage Sale!

posted Aug 28, 2010 4:28 AM by Brian Corrigan

We have now received a surge in items for the Port Band Garage Sale in August with a further 30 or so items promised from BNE and NN. Even our Secretary is having a monster clean-out. Could be lots of pens and staplers For Sale!!!
OCOM leaders are asked to canvas your unit to add to the item count. If you do not have any used items to donate consider donating a small new item or appliance that we can sell. Doesn’t matter what it is. This sale will raise some extra funds to go to by new small instruments to replace some in our hire pool that are well due final retirement!
If you have any larger items you would like to donate (eg furniture) could you please hold on to them until closer to the date. All smaller items can be stored in the Benjamin Room at the hall.
The tentative date for this fundraiser will be October 23rd – stay tuned for confirmation!
The venue for the garage sale will be at The Band Hall.
If you are also available to help on this day, with the set up before the event, and helping run the day, please contact Glen on the email below.
For more info on this event, please contact either Greg (secretary@pmhmb.org) or Glen (treasurer@pmhmb.org).

Band Unit News

24th August 2010.

Senior Band:

A message from Glenn - Only 3 more rehearsals before the concert. Try to make all of them. The next 2 will be normal times and the 3rd (Sep 7) will be
Concert Band 6.30 - 8.00 and Big Band from 8.00 - 8.45. Could I ask all players to switch off mobile phones in rehearsals. The only exceptions
should be emergency or work related needs. I find it very distracting when a phone rings or someone is texting in rehearsals, so if you want the best out of me as a director you need to provide me with a distraction-free environment. Also please don't engage in conversations in rehearsals other than current music related issues. I do appreciate most of you show me a great deal of respect at all times and I thank you for that. Brian has pointed out that we only really play at the "bigger more demading occasions" now so it is important we keep up the discipline in rehearsals. I was pleased to be able to start on the dot of 6.30 last week with most of the band present. If we start on time, we will finish on time!

Young Guns:

Young Guns is hard at work preparing music for several upcoming gigs! Stay tuned for more info!

Blue Notes are also looking for new players, so if you know of any potential players, please speak to Marc!
